About Tammy

First Basic Tammy

The first version of Tammy had a hollow plastic body with non-bending limbs.  She had rooted hair, bright face paint and painted eyelashes.  Marked Ideal Toy Corp on her back.  Her first outfit was a blue shorts suit and white sneakers.

Pos'n Tammy

In 1963 Tammy was developed to have bendable limbs so she could be moved into various positions.  For this reason she was called a Pos’n Tammy.  She had the same face but a long plait added to her hair.  Markings stay the same.

Grown up Tammy

By 1965 Ideal decided to make Tammy grow up and they created a taller slimmer body and new look face for her. Grown up Tammy came as a basic body version or as a pos'n Tammy.   She shared a more sophisticated line of clothing with her friend Misty.  Whether this version of Tammy caused the sales to slump or whether Ideal believed she had run her course, is unclear but production of Tammy ended in 1966.

Reliable Tammy

In Canada the Reliable Toy Company were licensed to produce Tammy.  She had a slightly different look to her face and is particularly attractive with dark hair.
